Set up in 1973 by Bill Bellerby, GATA is an umbrella organisation of almost 20 groups, promoting the interests of amateur theatre and public education in the dramatic arts in and around Guildford. WebIt finally opened in January 1997 following many years of campaigning by GATA (Guildford Amateur Theatre Association) who not only lobbied for its establishment, but also contributed substantial sums (in excess of £80,000) to help fund its conversion into the wonderful place it is today.
